Major Moscow's Attacks Cut Electricity Throughout Ukraine's Capital

Energy infrastructure under attack in the region
The country's power facilities have faced increased attacks in the past few days

During the night, Russian missile and drone strikes have resulted in power cuts in extensive areas of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

Nine people were hurt while residents in the city's east were left without electricity and dealt with interruptions to drinking water, according to city officials.

Meanwhile, a young boy was fatally injured in a different aerial attack in the southeastern region in the country's south-east, as reported by local officials.

Moscow has escalated strikes on energy facilities over the last fortnight, while the country's government has requested "substantial measures" from partner nations to exert influence on Russia.

"The necessity is not superficial actions but decisive action - from the US, the EU and the major economies - in providing protection systems and enforcing penalties," was stated in a social media post.

Officials stated that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and several dozen missiles targeted energy facilities, describing such assaults as "premeditated" and against "essential services" as temperatures become colder.

Government representatives said Moscow was "inflicting a massive strike" and maintenance teams were striving to repair systems.

A wave of strikes struck energy infrastructure and residential structures in Kyiv.

Multiple people wounded in the assaults on the city have been transported for medical care, according to local officials.

Regional authorities said the metropolitan region experienced significant strikes overnight. A seven-year-old child lost their life and three other people were hurt.

The attacks come after periods of bombing campaigns in the region, sections of which are occupied by Moscow's military.

All of Ukraine is under warning for advanced weapon attacks, which are harder to spot.

Government officials told the media that Moscow was purposely seeking to destroy the electrical infrastructure, with strikes already affecting fuel infrastructure.

He said technical personnel and government agencies were preparing for more assaults.
